Sri Lanka - how better to see this glorious country and its friendly, hospitable people than by bike with 5 star, luxury accommodation at the end of an exhilarating day?  Explore and experience a side of Sri Lanka rarely seen by visitors. 

The biking trails cover areas of spectacular beauty with breathtaking scenery.  Travel through valleys, tropical rain forests, tea plantations, ancient cities, pristine remote villages and stop for a swim on a tropical beach!  A 14 day cycling tour with excellent food and first class, luxury accommodation - this unique tour beacons you to come and enjoy!

Day 1

Arrival and transfer to Hotel. Test run of bikes in readiness for the tour.  Dinner and overnight stay at the 5* Beach Hotel, Negombo.

Day 2

After breakfast, bike to Kurunegala - the City of the Elephant.  The route passes along flat undeveloped roads, through brick and tile kilns, coir factories, coconut, rubber, pineapple plantations, and paddy fields - with occasional hilly areas. The distance is approximately 65-70 km.  You visit the Elephant Orphanage to see the world's largest herd of domestic Elephants.  Dinner and overnight stay at the comfortable but simple Elephant Walk Hotel, Pinnawela.

Day 3

After breakfast, bike to Sigiriya.  The route takes you through cart tracks , undeveloped trails, a small distance on developed roads, passing Paddy Fields, some traditionally cultivated fields, dry zone vegetation and some moderately hilly areas.  The distance is approximately 80 - 85 km.  Dinner and overnight stay in the Water or Forest Habitates at the Vil Uyana  Hotel - a truly ‘Lifestyle Hotel’.  Drawing from the local, rural traditions, the buildings grow not out but into the landscape. The ‘habitats’ naturalized by local flora and fauna create the timelessness of a healthy ecosystem providing the setting for peace and tranquility.  A haven for those who wish to escape from the norms of everyday life who wish to indulge in their hobbies whilst pampering themselves in luxurious comfort.  Dine in the privacy of your dwelling or ‘under the stars’ or simply relax and pamper yourself at the Island Spa offering a range of treatments from which to choose.

Day 4

After breakfast, lbike to Giritale.  The route is on flat, muddy tracks, paved roads, occasional tarred roads, dry zone jungles, teak plantations, paddy fields.  Dinner and overnight stay in Angsana Cottages at the Deer Park Hotel, Giritale. Deer Park Hotel which emerges in rustic splendor from the lush, tropical jungle bordering Minneriya-Giritale National Park.  Surrounded by beautiful vistas, each spacious Angsana Cottage boasts its own private gazebo with views of the serene Giritale reservior.  After a day in the saddle, wind down with an invigorating treatment at the Angsana Spa.

Day 5

After breakfast leave by vehicle for Polonnaruwa, where you visit many historical and archaeological sites of interest.  Dinner and overnight stay at Deer Park Hotel, Giritale.

Day 6

After breakfast, bike to Kandy - the Hill Capital.  Travel through the Knuckles Range via agricultural areas in Elahera and Bakamoona.  This route is along developed tarred roads with only an occasional vehicle passing.  This is a long route and guests are free to do as little or as much as they wish. Enjoy a walking tour of a Spice Garden.  In the evening, watch a Cultural Performance by traditional Kandyan Dancers and Drummers including “Fire Walking" and visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth.  Dinner and overnight stay in a Super Delux room at the Kandy Hotel, Kandy.

Day 7

After breakfast, enjoy a City Tour including the Royal Botanical Gardens - one of the best of its kind in Asia - and a Gem Museum.  Leave by bike for Galaha.  This  route of about 35km is rather hilly but extremely beautiful.  It passes through the Tea Estates with little or no traffic.  If time permits, you will visit the "Tea Museum" at the Hanatana Tea Plantation.  Dinner and overnight stay at a simple but comfortable Tea Plantation Bungalow.

Day 8

Relax for the morning!  After lunch, leave by bike for Nuwara Eliya - "Little England".  The route is surrounded by hills covered with tea, terraced paddy fields, remote villages amidst breathtakingly, beautiful landscapes.  Once on the main road, you are collected by vehicle. The distance is approximately 50km.  En route visit a Tea Factory and a Plantation to taste a pure unblended cup of factory fresh tea.  Dinner and overnight stay in a Deluxe room at the Tea Factory, Nuwara Eliya.

Day 9

After breakfast, bike to Bandarawela.  The route is hilly but on very good, tarred roads with little traffic for most of the time – approximate distance 50 km.  Dinner and overnight stay at the relaxed Kirchhayn Bungalow, Bandarawela - an idylic and tranquil spot with super food.

Day 10

Start the day gently with some relaxation!  Later in the mrning you bike towards Uda Walawe National  Park - you can do as little or as much as you like.  At the Park, you'll take a Jeep Safari of the Uda Walawe National Park mainly to see wild elephants.  Dinner and overnight stay in the  Basalt Suite at the Boulder Garden Hotel, Kalawana.  This boutique hotel is nestled amongst exotic tropical  scenery and beautifully manicured lowland tea estates on the fringes of the remote Kalawana.  It offers guests the ultimate in accommodation with opulently appointed guest suites furnished in traditional style.

Day 11

After breakfast leave by vehicle for Bentota visiting the Wevurukannala Temple, Veherahena underground Temple Complex, Galle Dutch Fortress - a World Heritage Site and a Mask Museum en route.  Dinner and overnight stay in a Superior room at the Taru Villas, Bentotaa - a spectacular riverside, boutique hotel. Undeniably, it is one of the most beautiful properties in Sri Lanka and is set amidst 7 acres of lush land on the Madhu estuary.  It offers a serene setting for deep relaxation and indulgence. The hotel also has an outdoor
pool and plunge tubs / pool in most of its suites.

Days 12 / 13

Relax on the beach - perhaps take a Boat Cruise through mangroves to enjoy the local nature and watch Sri Lankan life pass you by.  Dinner and overnight stay at Taru Villas, Bentota

Day 14

After breakfast, you will be transfered to the airport for your flight

The arrival and departure airport is Bandaranayake International Airport, Colombo (CMB).

Please note that the months of May to September are great months to visit due to cooler temperatures.
